Povilas Syrrist-Gelgota is an original artist with an unusually wide repertoire including classical, folk and new romantic music.
He plays viola, sings and sings while he is playing viola!
Povilas is a very active as soloist and chamber musician regularly participating in International festivals in Norway and abroad.
Last five years Povilas played solo with different orchestras fo 17 times, performing compositions of W.A.Mozart, F. Latenas, M.Bruch, T.Madsen, Kj.M. Karlsen, Kj.Marcussen.
In 2007, together with cellist Toril Syrrist-Gelgota, recorded Povilas the CD "Pilgrimage" , original duets for viola and cello.
In 2017 he, together with cellist Toril Syrrist-Gelgota and guitarist Aanders Clemens Øien, recorded CD "Dedications"-music of Kjell Marcussen.
Povilas has also participated in many other chamber music recordings.
11 composers from Norway , Lithuania and Turkey composed and dedicated to him solo and chamber music works.
Povilas is very found of presenting Lithuanian music in Norway and Norwegian music in Lithuania.
In 2010 he was awarded a medal from the Lithuanian Embassy in Norway for contribution to cultural exchange between these two countries.
